Crimecall/Garda Photographic Unit

Have you seen this man? Sketch released of alleged au pair attacker

The man is alleged to have tried to strangle a woman in Templogue in October.

THIS IS THE face of a man who allegedly attacked and tried to strangle a woman at a house in October.

Well, sort of.

This is actually a reconstruction of the man’s face, created by the Garda Photographic Unit.

The woman worked with the unit in order to give an accurate description of the man’s facial features. EvoFIT technology was then used to try to create a realistic picture of the man’s face.

The attack

The man in question is alleged to have attacked an au pair in the family home she was working in in the Osprey estate in Templeogue on 5 October.

The family were out for the day when the woman said a man called to the door. She expected it to be someone from the father of the household’s business, as the nature of the business meant that people called over to collect things at times.

She let the man in and he allegedly attacked her. The woman said that he grabbed her and threw her to the ground. She said that he then covered her mouth and tried to strangle her.

The woman fought back and she told police that the man eventually gave up and ran from the house.

The man is described as:

  • 40 – 50 Years old.
  • 5’7″ – 5’9″ in Height.
  • With a thin face.
  • Narrow pointed nose.
  • Scars on face.
  • Blue eyes.

Specially trained police officers use EvoFIT to create an image of a suspect.

They speak to a victim, and ask certain questions to create a digital sketch from the recollection. It’s an upgrade from older technology and was introduced for use by the gardaí last year.

A reconstruction of the attack and the image of the man, as well as an appeal from gardaí will be aired tonight on RTÉ’s Crimecall at 9:35pm.
